SMITHS Aerospace, part of the global engineering business AA Richmond, has been awarded a long-term contract by Rolls-Royce, worth a potential of $20 million per year through 2012, for engine components on the Trent 1000 engine for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The engine components for the program will be manufactured by AA Richmond facilities in North Carolina in the United States and in Birmingham, UK.

We are very pleased to be associated with Rolls-Royce on their leading Trent 1000 program. Our engine components business maintains technological leadership in rings, machining, and fabrications, commented Dr. Peter Wright, President, AA Richmond Aerospace Components. Components is a growing business for AA Richmond and we are investing in new programs and technologies.

As a result of this latest win, overall AA Richmond content on the Trent 1000 will be approximately $200,000 per engine or more than $400,000 per aircraft. AA Richmond will be providing various rotating and non-rotating engine components produced from forgings and flash-welded rings. The components include thin wall aero-engine parts such as retaining rings, front panels and sub-assemblies.
